What a very apt way to start sharing my blog with everyone with a post on a place that closely relates to me. This place is none other than Tiong Bahru Market, a venue where I get my Sunday breakfast meals without fail almost every week. This time round, with my mind set on doing up this blog, I decided to gather with some of my friends, some of whom I haven't met in awhile, to try out the good food at Tiong Bahru Market.

How to get there:

Tiong Bahru Market
83 Seng Poh Road
2nd Level

Being in a stay out unit in NS does serve me some good benefits. But, it also means that I get to reach Tiong Bahru Market with my friends at only around 7.30pm. Many of the good food stalls that I know about are already closed but most of it are actually still open! Even up till a late hour of 9pm, these stalls are still going strong and whipping up their fresh dishes to their loyal customers. Amongst them, the Chwee Kueh, Fried Oyster Stall and Teochew Fishball Noodle stalls have the recognition of being the latest night owls.

This is hugely important especially for a place like Singapore.

Where do you actually go to get cheap but at the same time, delicious food after working till such a late hour? What I'm going to list below, are the answers to that question for Tiong Bahru Market.

Operating Hours:
8am-Around 10pm

Honourable Mentions:

#02-05 Jian Bo Shui Kueh:

Served by the mum of my primary school friend, this chwee kueh stall still serves them fresh even at this late hour. There is another chwee kueh stall named traditional chwee kueh at Tiong Bahru market as well. Both taste good but in my opinion, this slightly edges the other.

#02-13: Teochew Fishball Noodle Dry/Soup:

The handmade fishballs and soup base make the noodles great. Even without them, the noodle can hold its own.

#02-15: Tian Tian Yuan Dessert House

Refreshing dessert that can top off a meal here.

#02-61: Fried Oyster, Oyster Omelette, Chee Cheong Fan:

Trust me. This stall serves up good Chee Cheong Fan. But forget that. The star of this stall is that oyster omelette. It gives a good amount of juicy oysters and probably the best sour and spicy sauce. What is important for an oyster omelette dish is the sauce and this sauce nails it.

#02-74: Hwa Yuen Porridge:

Looking for a healthy quick main meal? The tasty Hwa Yuen porridge should be a good pick for you.

Some of the stalls that are highly recommended to be tried, but were not open when I was there are the following:

#02-06: Tau Kwar Pok Stall
A huge must try. Unhealthy but its sauce just makes you addicted to it.

#02-18: Tiong Bahru Pau
A regular snack at a very cheap rate here in Tiong Bahru Market.

#02-25: HarriAnn's Delights
My uncle's personal favourite. It does serve up decent glutinous rice and other pastries.

#02-29: Koh Brother's Pig Organ Soup
Decent broth. Popular amongst the crowd.

#02-31: Min Nan Prawn Mee
Much hardwork and determination from the chef brought his stall back from the dead. Going through the programme hosted by Quan YiFeng and Zhong Qin on Channel 8, this chef underwent serious training and pressure to prove his doubters wrong by making prawn mee that have a great soup base and fresh prawns and pork.

#02-43: Kway Chap
Look out for the stall with a female aunty making kway chap. She's the real deal concocting those soupy delicious kway chap.

#02-58: 178 Lor Mee Stall
The shark fritters and thick gravy base steals the show.

#02-69: Soyabean and Beancurd:
I believe most of you love the famous LaoBan beancurd that is found in Old Airport Road and sub branches like Tampines MRT. Do you know that they are actually not the traditional beancurds and are being made and processed in a different way? Personally, having a nice cup of soyabean and a hot traditional beancurd is much more refreshing and more of the real deal. Foodies looking for a good traditional beancurd should come here to have a taste of it.

#02-82: Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice:
The queue at this stall on a weekend is so frustrating. The reason why is straightforward. The chicken rice served is excellent!

You're definitely spoilt for choice at Tiong Bahru Market. Tiong Bahru is diverse and also offers up many cafes and restaurants to explore. A great place for foodies and travellers to be in.

So what's your favourite dish in Tiong Bahru Market?

Feel free to leave a comment or send an email to give me more suggestions on places to go(:

So with that, Peanut has left a marker on another food place yet again.
