This quote typically sums up my thoughts after patronising this bakery stall. After a good long workout yesterday, I just had to stumble upon this Bakery near my place. I couldn't help it but to purchase a few nice snacks in spite of all those calories burnt in the Delta gym.


This bakery shop within close proximity to the bus stop houses plentiful of delicious cakes and pastries for one to savour. Its setup provides a nice throwback to the traditional bakeries that are replete during my adolescent times. It consists of a nice frontal display view of cakes plus a rear kitchen where the pastry delights are being created.

Atypical of a Pattiserie place, this bakery provides cakes, ondeh ondeh, delicious tarts and some trademark pastries that you do not actually see around in a usual bakery stall. The appealing pastries on display were too enticing for me to just walk around and not buy anything. Thus, with the suggestion from the extremely friendly shop owner, she introduced me to try out their trademark pastry - Butterfly cake.


The Sugary coating, soft texture, creamy exterior and the cherry topping are a great mixture that brought out the flavour in this delightful cake. The ingredients that are in this cake makes the $2 slightly more worth it but in my opinion, is still a wee bit expensive. To think that the shopowner thought I wanted to get one of this for my girlfriend when I don't even have one...




Amongst others, I tried the pineapple tart, almond cherry tart and ondeh ondeh. They were well baked and topped off with great finishing to make them look so appetizing.




P.S. Pardon my mistake on my instagram post as I quoted it was a Strawberry Butterfly cake when it actually is a cherry as the topping.

Ultimately, with good quality food, comes a more exorbitant value. This is the true story here. While I wouldn't say that this bakery stall sells pastries that are beyond expensive, some of the products here are still considered to be by me. Lapis for $5? Cherry butterfly cake at $2?


Even the sushi plates from my previous post are cheaper than them. This line pretty much sums up my thoughts on the pricing of the pastries.


To be honest, I can't believe that I spent an hour walking around the vicinity of Tiong Bahru Market and Seng Poh Road after my gym workout. I spotted many stalls and I wanted to try a certain Tiong Bahru Bak Kut Teh. Unfortunately, it is closed and maybe just maybe, I would try it today.


For now, I'm satisfied as this bakery has definitely left a good impression in me.

Them tarts, them cakes.

I simply love Tiong Bahru.


So with that, Peanut has left another marker on a food place yet again.

And that is why eating Japanese food never fails in its job to make me happy. There is so much to choose from the Japanese Variety be it sashimis, Sushi rolls, miso soup, ramen, just to name a few. Such a wide galore of food types are also able to provide great health benefits to an individual. The high proteins of a larger preference for fish types and the green tea that fights off undesirable elements in the body are just 2 of the many benefits that Japanese food provides.


So what exactly comes along with large quantities of such Japanese food? Yes, a Japanese buffet.

A few days ago, I patronised the Sushi Express branch at Tampines 1. It is not exactly a buffet but I would rate it in the same category as one as they sell their plates of Japanese food types at a very cheap rate that is equally value for money as a buffet place.


It sells plates of sushi and others alike at $1.50/plate. 10 plates alone with additional GST cost would not even cause it to exceed $17 and is more than enough for a good hearty lunch/dinner.




The low and affordable pricing at sushi express not just guarantees a cheap meal, it too guarantees tasty food that will satisfy your cravings.

In an A la Carte buffet place like Sushi Express, it wouldn't be as worth it to go for the simple conventional food types like just a plain sushi or egg sushi. My choices would usually coincide with the more extravagant and expensive food types to make the $1.50/plate pricing even more worthwhile.

That explains why my food choices here are mainly that of sashimis, desserts and scallops.





And to top it all off, a nice cheesecake that is well worth the $1.50.

If you're not in a rush and you're patient to wait long hours to get good and cheap Japanese food, Sushi Express is the place to go. Just make sure you don't waste your time there picking on the cheap dishes. The food on offer bring flavour to the fore and will not disappoint.

There is one more branch upcoming at Seletar Mall as well.

By now, you would know that I don't actually think that this place is fantastic but being able to try so many different types of food already makes me contented to a large extent. Besides, there is still good food present at this venue. Forget about trying the many varieties, just go for the following ones that I am going to suggest(:


1) Buffet Town Drumsticks


Golden Brown, crispy with a hot interior. Not the most outstanding kind of chicken that you're gonna taste but it is of an acceptable level.

2) Grilled Banana


It might look charred but the banana flavour is well retained despite being grilled. There is no hint of the charred taste and its rich original and fresh banana taste leaves you wanting for more. The grilled section serves goreng pisang as well but it is not quite as good as this deceiving skewered banana.

3) Satay


It is extremely common to spot satays when a buffet has a local delights section. Same goes for laksa, hokkien mee and carrot cake. But forget those. The peanut sauce is fragrant and highly addictive and blends well with the satay. Let me rephrase, it is the sauce that you should look out for when consuming those satays.

4) Corn

The corn on that very same plate is worth a go as well. Juicy and well-cooked, it retains its original flavour well.

5) Ice Cream Waffle


It is difficult to find a good ice cream waffle around but this one manages it. There is an option where you are able to ask for a freshly made waffle so you can get it piping hot. Add an ice cream topping located at the side of the counter and the end result? A Good end to a hearty meal.(:

An advice to try out the mixture of Yuzu, Vanilla and Mango. They go so well together and that mango is especially great.

6) Desserts




There is so much to choose from for this section at buffet town you're simply spoilt for choice.

7) Fish Head



On the flip side(no pun intended), the grilled section that serves up 4 of the food that I listed here takes awhile to refill their food. So unfortunately, you have to wait for the best food here.

Patience is key.



Personally, I'm a sucker for sashimis. I simply love them. However freshly served this sashimi was, the overly salty soya sauce for that wasabi spoilt the whole thing. Such a pity.

Buffet Town isn't really the best place to go to for a buffet despite its wide variety. Perhaps, its huge variety compromised the quality of most of the food there. The minority bright sparks of food available here manages to salvage this place as a value for money venue despite its tad expensive cost.
