CHANGI AIRPORT TERMINAL 2 STAFF CANTEEN PART 1

"Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in this World." - Gustave Flaubert

Besides Orchard Road, there is probably no place in Singapore that makes you feel that certain sense of wanderlust quite like Changi Airport. A venue where students - JC, University and even Secondary School ones, love to sit around and mug peacefully. And apart from that, it is a serene venue where travellers leave or set foot upon their arrival in Singapore. It is therefore, no surprises that many global franchises fix their branches there to maximise profits from locals and foreigners who dine there.

So here's the catch.... just forget the commonly seen outlets from KFC, Macs, Krispy Kreme, etc. If you want cheap and good food at Changi Airport, make your way to the staff canteen where surprises are replete.

This staff canteen is located at the corner of Terminal 2, on the 3rd level.

How to get there:

Level 3M, Changi Airport Terminal 2, 819643, Singapore

Initially, I wanted to save this post for a later date when I can make a full review of the best food places there but I really couldn't help it but be excited to post about this place first. So here I am, decided upon writing this column in parts. The next time I'm back at the staff canteen, I can take more pictures of the other good food there and share them.

As for today, the topic will be on this particular Western Stall - Wild Olives, that is a favourite in this very canteen.

This stall serves crisp and fresh Western food that are all available at an attractive low pricing. The best thing about this stall is that there is no fixed routine on what they actually prepare on consecutive days. Fried food is readily available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while Grilled food are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

After many years of not coming to this staff canteen, I'm back on a Saturday where they offered grilled food on the day.

Pricing:

Spending $6-$7 can easily get you nice grilled fillet with soup from this place and many of the other main courses alike. Selling food that is cheap and affordable, it is a suitable steal for the working class.

Food:

Food wise, the Western food served at Wild Olives provides a flavourful experience.

The picture here depicts Linguine with clams cooked in tomato sauce but I believe that the one served and cooked in white wine is a much better alternative. The tomato flavour was a tad too sour for me.

Linguine ain't that bad but this is a certain must try. Don't be fooled by the appearance of this grilled fish. It appears innocently coated with seasoning and breaded crumbs but in actual fact, you're going to be experiencing a more tender sensation. The cream over it and the rice provides a tasty dinner ride to look forward to.

Western food area usually mistaken and stereotyped with an image of fried food that is oily and unhealthy. Wild Olives however, provide a great alternative with its grilled dishes. If it were to choose to expand its branches, I am extremely sure that it will be a huge success in our little red dot.

So with that, Peanut has left another marker on a food place.

Stay tuned for more adventures.

Signing off,
KY
